SEE US IN ACTION
ISEY Director Prof Sam Wass talking for Early Years Scotland on ‘Understanding Young Brains and Early Learning Environments’
ISEY Knowledge Exchange & Research Partnerships Director Dr Gemma Goldenberg talking for the Centre of Educational Neuroscience on ‘The impact of the learning environment on cognition, stress and behaviour’
“Gemma demonstrated a deep understanding of the profound impact that outdoor learning can have on a child's development and her enthusiasm was contagious. The incorporation of scientific principles into outdoor activities was not only educational but also incredibly engaging. The seamless blend of theory and practical applications made the entire session dynamic and accessible to everyone in the room.”
Headteacher, Kensington Prep School (following an inset day training on 'The Science behind Outdoor learning)
“The pitch was perfect for our staff; a great blend of theory and relatable classroom practice. We were all surprised at how much great ground we covered in the time available. The fact that Gemma has experience as a teacher really resonated with our teaching team.”
Headteacher, Wimbledon High School (following an Inset day training on Emotional self regulation)
“This was the 'meat' of the conference! Sam was a skilled speaker with both research to focus on and some clear actions that we can come away with which enables us to think about children in a different way. EXCELLENT!”
“Exceptionally interesting and well delivered content with an engaging pace!”
“The data and research was fascinating.”
“I think everyone needs to hear this!”

Access to state-of-the-art, world-leading research methodologies
At ISEY we have developed state-of-the-art methods for evaluating the effectiveness of programmes, interventions and approaches. We can use child-worn wearables and neuroimaging to measure immediate changes in children’s engagement, learning, social interaction, group dynamics and emotion regulation.
EXAMPLE PROJECTS
ISEY is working with the Discover Children’s Story Centre in Stratford to evaluate the effectiveness of a story-telling intervention funded by the Mercer’s Company, being run at London Early Years Foundation nurseries. Their evaluation uses child-worn wearable devices to look at how the story-telling intervention affects children’s group coordination dynamics, attention and language.
ISEY is working with The Country Trust to help measure the impact of their programmes on disadvantaged children, using a range of techniques including case studies, semi structured interviews and questionnaire data.
All of the income we generate from our consultancy and training feeds back into ISEY to fund our future research.
