Doug Smukler

Doug was a 3rd-year undergraduate at the University of Oregon, pursuing a double major in psychology and business administration, with a concentration in business analytics. While studying abroad in a GEO London program, he began an internship at the UEL BabyDev Lab in the spring of 2023.

Curious about the mysterious nature of psychedelics in relation to mental disorders, Doug aimed to conduct research on the long-term neurocognitive effects of ingesting these hallucinogenic substances. To further explore this topic, he hoped to pursue a career in clinical research, utilizing his academic experience in data analytics to conduct tests and research. Focusing on evaluating the correlation between psychedelic medicines and dissociative disorders—such as Depersonalization Disorder and Derealization Disorder—Doug sought to address gaps in existing literature and studies on their potential influences.

Through his internship at UEL, Doug worked to expand his understanding of in-lab testing processes, data collection, and analysis by assisting a team of PhD students with their research. He aspired to pursue a PhD in psychology following his graduation from the University of Oregon in Spring 2024.
