Emanuel Almborg
Emanuel Almborg is a Postdoc in artistic research, funded by The Swedish Research Council conducting the project The Social Infant at UEL BabyDevLab in collaboration with the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm, and LUX London. His project is based on an observational film study of babies in groups and will result in an art film that aims to capture infants' group-relating abilities. He completed a PhD at the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm (KKH) in 2021 with the dissertation Towards a Pedagogy of the Utopian Image. Before that, he was a Whitney Independent Study Program fellow in New York in 2015. Almborg is a practising artist, filmmaker, and teacher. He has taught fine art at Goldsmiths, London and Konstfack Stockholm. From 2018 to 2022, he was the initiator and facilitator of Switchers, a film and theatre collective working with young people from London and rural Wales. He has also studied psychoanalytic observation and child development at the Tavistock NHS Trust in London. His artwork has recently been exhibited at Whitechapel Gallery (London), Moderna Museet (Stockholm), and CAC Brétigny.
His ongoing project The Social Infant has so far resulted in the short film Baby Group, which was shown at Raven Row, London, in autumn 2024 and will be presented at Amant, New York, in spring 2025.
