Tom Deadman

Tom is a PhD researcher supervised by Professor Sam Wass and Professor Emily Jones. His project is funded by the Medical Research Council, and he works with the STAARS cohort, a group of infants with a first-degree relative who has a diagnosis of ADHD or autism. His research examines the link between attention and motor activity, particularly in children with an increased chance of having ADHD, and how attention varies across temporal scales. He aims to take findings from naturalistic paradigms done in the lab and extend them to the data gathered by wearable devices in the home setting. Exploring different ways of thinking about ADHD is very important to him, and he hopes to make this kind of research non-extractive.

Prior to starting his PhD, Tom completed an MSc in psychology at Birkbeck. He also completed a BSc (Hons) and MSc in biomedical science from the University of Bradford. He has worked in molecular diagnostics development and as a software engineer.
